I-84 Interchange at West Jerome to be closed Wednesday, Thursday
SHOSHONE - Access to Interstate 84 at the West Jerome interchange will be closed beginning Wednesday (Aug. 1) for reconstruction and paving, the Idaho Transportation Department announced.

The westbound on- and off-ramps at the interchange, Exit 165, will be closed from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Wednesday and will remain closed during those hours on Thursday. All traffic should use the South Jerome Interchange, Exit 168, to access Jerome.

Interstate 84 is reduced from four to two lanes between mileposts 167 and 172 and is open to two-way traffic in the eastbound lanes only.

Vehicles are limited to a maximum width of 14 feet through the construction zone. The speed limit is reduced to 65 miles per hour. Delays of 10-15 minutes can be expected. The Jerome Rest Area remains closed during this phase of construction.

Work on the westbound lanes is expected to be completed by September.

This section of interstate is deteriorated and cracked. The $9.7 million rehabilitation project, scheduled to be completed by September, will create a safer, smoother surface. Western Construction of Boise is the contractor.

Motorists are reminded to slow down in highway construction zones. Rear-end collisions account for most work zone crashes. Following too closely, inattentive driving, failing to yield the right of way and improper lane changes also contribute to accidents in work zones.
