Lane closures coming on U.S. 20/26 near Meridian, more construction planned
BOISE—As part of planned improvements on U.S. Highway 20/26 (Chinden West), drivers should anticipate overnight lane closures between State Highway 16 and Star Road beginning the week of Sept. 5th after the Labor Day holiday.
US-20/26 will be reduced to one lane in each direction with intermittent delays of up to 15 minutes between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. Traffic on Star Road near the highway will also be limited. Flaggers will guide drivers through the work zone. Lane reductions will occur throughout construction as ITD works to widen the highway over the next two years.
This work is part of the Idaho Transportation Department’s (ITD) goal of reducing congestion and crashes by reconstructing and widening the roadway and intersections along this heavily traveled corridor.
Construction will continue through 2024.
I-84 to Middleton Road
Beginning the week of Sept. 12, construction will begin mostly off the highway on the southside of this section of US-20/26. Work includes utility and irrigation construction during daytime hours. As construction progresses, lane reductions are planned, but will be announced well ahead of time.
Construction in this section is also anticipated to be complete in 2024.

Preliminary design continues on this 6-mile segment of the highway. ITD will share updates, and host another open house for the public and stakeholders to view final design plans. An open house was held in May 2022. A link to those materials is available at itdprojects.org/projects/chindenwest/
For all work along US-20/26, ITD reminds all drivers to slow down, watch for posted signs, and sign up for construction updates by either emailing chindenwest@itd.idaho.gov or calling 208.334.8007.
