Construction update for eastern Idaho for April 26-May 2

RIGBY - Construction is moving into high gear on a number of highway projects in eastern Idaho, the Idaho Transportation Department announced.

Here is the construction update for April 26 through May 2:

  • Sunnyside I-15 Interchange to I-15B Construction has resumed on the Sunnyside I-15 Interchange, Snake River Bridge and five-lane connecting road near Idaho Falls. The $21 million project is scheduled for completion by Fall 2006. Two lanes of traffic will be maintained in both directions on I-15 throughout the summer. The speed limit is 55 mph between mileposts 113 and 120. Idaho Construction of Kimberly is the contractor.
  • I-15, breakaway signs, Idaho 33 IC to Montana line Work will begin next week on replacing signs along both sides of the interstate. The new signs will break away when hit by vehicles, reducing injury and property damage in case of an accident. G.V. Construction of Garden Valley is the contractor for $357,000 project. Motorists are advised to use caution in work zones.
  • U.S. 20, Hitt and St. Leon Interchanges Telford, Hitt and St. Leon roads will be closed next week at their intersections with U.S. 20 north of Idaho Falls. Traffic will be routed onto the northbound lanes of U.S. 20 and will remain two-way, two-lane throughout the summer. The contractor will begin pouring the decks of the new interchanges soon will be poured and the overpasses completed by early summer so traffic can be routed onto the new section of highway while the ramps and connecting roads are built.. The $19 million project is scheduled for completion by this fall. Contractor is Western Construction of Boise.
  • U.S. 20, Sugar City to Twin Groves - The concrete surface will be ground to provide a better driving surface and to smooth cracks from milepost 342 south of St. Anthony to milepost 249 at Twin Groves northeast of St. Anthony. The speed limit is 45 mph. Diversified Concrete Cutting of Sparks, Nev., is the contractor for the $506,000 project.
  • U.S. 20, South of Ashton Construction will begin May 2 on a $1.8 million pavement rehabilitation project between mileposts 353 and 360 south of Ashton on U.S. 20. H-K Contractors of Idaho will repair, overlay and seal-coat the highway. Traffic will be one-lane, one way controlled by flaggers. The work zone speed limit will be 45 mph.
  • Idaho 33, Canyon Creek Bridge Work is suspended on the bridge until late June or early July, awaiting delivery of the steel girders.Work began in December; new piers for the structure have been poured. Sletten Construction of Great Falls, Mont., has started building the steel support structures for the new bridge north of the existing bridge.
  • The $4.3 million project is scheduled for completion by fall. The speed limit is 45 mph, and occasional lane closures occasionally will require one-way traffic. Traffic will be routed over the old bridge during construction.
  • U.S. 93, Arco West The top layWork has begun on the widening of U.S. 93 shoulders west of Arco between mileposts 233 and 246 west of Arco.. Flaggers and pilot cars guide traffic through the work zone; expect delays of up to 15 minutes. A 12-foot vehicle width restriction is in place. Work is scheduled for completion in early June, and a seal coat will be placed in mid-August. H-K Contractors of Idaho Falls is the contractor for the $3.8 million project.
  • U.S. 93, North Fork Bridge to Gibbonsville Construction on an 11-mile stretch of highway between mileposts 326 to and 337 will begin early in May. Flaggers and pilot cars will direct traffic through the work zone. Motorists should expect delays of up to 15 minutes. Western Construction of Boise is the contractor for the $1.9 million project.
