New lanes on I-84 between Caldwell and Nampa open Thursday morning, April 20
MEDIA ADVISORY: ITD will host a Facebook Live event tonight (Wednesday, April 19) at 11:59 p.m. to celebrate the opening of the new lanes on I-84.
CALDWELL- The Idaho Transportation Department will open the new third lane on Interstate 84 between Franklin Road (Exit 29) in Caldwell and Karcher Road (Exit 33) in Nampa to motorists on Thursday morning, April 20.
The I-84 Franklin Road to Karcher Road project began in the summer of 2021 and included:
- Adding a third lane on I-84 in both directions
- Adding additional ramp lanes at Franklin and Karcher westbound off-ramps
- Building two median walls on I-84
- Adding two soundwalls along I-84
- Replacing 20 bridges throughout the corridor
“ITD would like to thank the community for their patience during the construction of this important project, as well as all the projects that were tied in with the widening,” said Mark Campbell, ITD Project Manager. “We also want to thank the two prime contractors, Concrete Placing Company and Western Construction, for completing the work on time and within budget.”
Over the next several months, construction crews will complete final activities such as installing fences,
sealing bridge decks and seeding shoulders. All activities for the $136 million project will be completed by August.
This summer, ITD plans to continue widening I-84 in Caldwell between the Centennial Way Interchange
