Four-lane segment of U.S. 95 to be extended to Hillside Road south of Genesee
LEWISTON Motorists traveling on U.S. 95 between Lewiston and Moscow will find another 1.7 miles of four-lane highway when a paving project is completed early this week, the Idaho Transportation Department announced.
The new transition from two lanes to four lanes will occur at the Cow Creek bridges on U.S. 95, just south of Genesee. Beginning late Wednesday or early Thursday, motorists will drive on four lanes of divided highway from the new transition at Hillside Road to Thorn Creek Road, a stretch of about 7.4 miles.
Construction crews are paving the southbound U.S. 95 lanes to the new transition this week.
Paving the northbound lanes of U.S. 95 should be completed by late October, weather permitting. That would conclude two contiguous projects from the top of the Lewiston Hill to Thorn Creek Road. The first project was finished last year.
If conditions allow, rumble strips will be added and durable pavement markers placed on the new four-lane alignment late this fall. If cool, wet weather arrives early, temporary pavement stripes will be painted this fall and the in-laid durable markers will be added next spring.
Discussions continue on alignment alternatives for the U.S. 95 Thorn Creek to Moscow project that, when completed, will give motorists a safer four-lane divided highway from Lewiston to Moscow.
