ITD Bridge crew assists Boise Fire
with watercraft rescue

On April 30, the Idaho Transportation Department bridge inspection crew assisted the Boise Fire Department during a water rescue of their own firefighters on the Boise River.

Firefighters were conducting training exercises on the river, when their boat lost power and became stuck under the Broadway Bridge. A rescue operation ensued, which included assistance from ITD's bridge crews and their under bridge inspection truck.

ITD maintenance forces also provided traffic control during the operation.

All firefighters were safely rescued, and after water levels were lowered on the river out of Lucky Peak, the damaged boat was removed from the river.
