Beckstead and Freeman advance to nationals
after state roadeo 1-2 finish

The 2019 equipment roadeos for ITD are now in the books for this year, but the top two finishers, champion Matt Beckstead of District 5 and runner-up Robin Freeman of District 3, still have one more trip to make. They will next participate in the national event at the Western Snow & Ice event in Colorado in late September.
It will be a return trip for each of them. Beckstead previously went in 2014 and 2015 following state titles, while it is a fifth trip for Freeman, who went in 2003, 2006, 2007, and 2017. This will be his first trip not as the state champ, though.
Freeman’s four state titles is second only to the five won by D4's Jarrett Porter ('94, '96-'98, '01). Freeman is also among the most consistent winners in the state, winning the District 3 title a whopping 13 times.
Third-place finisher Camilo Serrano of the Marsing Maintenance shed will serve as the alternate if either Beckstead or Freeman is unable to go to Colorado.
District 3 also won the team title at the event June 18.
