ITD Communication products for public earn recognition

A pair of ITD Office of Communication products aimed at providing better service to the public recently earned national awards.

The department’s first-ever video annual report won the 2019 TransComm (AASHTO’s Communications Subcommittee) “video production, long form” award July 30, while the rollout of the ITD photo library campaign won an Award of Excellence in the APEX awards July 31 in the “Campaigns, Plans & Programs – Public Service” category. The TransComm awards represent a first-place effort from entries open to all state DOTs, while the APEX Awards had neasrly 1,300 entries nationwide.

It was the second award in as many weeks for the video annual report, which won a Videography award earlier in July. The video script was written by ITD Technical Writer Rik Hinton, and the video was produced by Bill Kotowski, now with ITD's Office of Highway Safety.

It is the third award for the Photo Library, which also picked up Idaho Press Club and North American Excellence awards in the last year. The historical photo library idea was first hatched by former ITD Communication Chief Jeff Stratten, and the library's structure and marketing materials were created by Pauline Davis and Jared Tuttle. Reed Hollinshead spearheaded the campaign rollout.

It was the second APEX Award of Excellence for an ITD public campaign - the organization also won for the planning and execution required for the influx of traffic relatyed to the Great American Eclipse in late summer 2017.
