Snowplow lighting innovation allows better visibility, less glare

Although there’s no snow on the ground right now, it will be back before you know it!

A safety innovation was submitted this spring, when the fight with the elements was an everyday occurrence. The innovation, by District 4’s Beau Pulse, was aimed at reducing the glare from the plow, which is a safety enhancement for the public as they negotiate around the plow, and for our drivers, who would take the impact of a crash with an errant vehicle.

After his first attempt was disallowed because the lights were in the wrong location according to Idaho State Police specs, Pulse adjusted the position of the lights to be in compliance. Pulse initially painted the back of the plow black, but that only provided a small measure of relief from the glare. He then had Rocky Mountain Welding build a bracket onto the existing light bracket in order to move the plow lights in by almost a foot and allow the fog lights to move up a little.

“I can raise my plow a little higher now, which will help keep from hitting the plow on the roads or crossovers on the interstate when turning or crossing,” Pulse explained.
