Entries sought for
Excellence in Transportation Awards
Entry deadline is Sept. 6

ITD is taking nominations for the 2019 Excellence in Transportation Awards. The due date for nominations is Sept. 6 by 4 p.m. This gives everyone a full four weeks to gather materials, evaluate and submit entries.

This year, organizers are excited to announce significant changes to the awards contest that are designed to increase participation and the chance to be recognized for the hard work ITD employees do every day.

Among the changes are two new additions to the Personnel categories. The first addition is the Kimbol Allen Excellence in Innovation Award. It recognizes transportation department employees who have demonstrated a commitment to innovation. The award is open to all ITD employees.

The second addition to the Personnel categories is the Vanguard Award. It recognizes an employee or a team of employees who have been with the department 5 years or less and have demonstrated a commitment to ITD’s mission, a strong contribution to projects they’ve worked on and service to their peers or the public.

Other improvements to the awards program include expanding the Planning category to include planning efforts for projects across a broad spectrum. Nominations can now be submitted for planning efforts that involve technology, modernization projects and employee development as well as corridor studies, long-range transportation plans, etc.

In addition, the Large Design and Small Design categories have been combined into a single Design category to streamline the contest. Those nominating projects in this category will no longer need to identify if a project had a budget of more than $5 million or less than $5 million.

Another improvement to the awards contest is renaming the Public Participation category to Communication / Public Outreach to reflect the broader spectrum of work done to engage and inform the public about ITD’s work.
