POE enhancements improve economic opportunities for truckers As part of DMV modernization efforts, the Compliance Program (which includes Ports of Entry) procured a web-based system to assist in the credentialing of motor carriers. During this acquisition, the POEs also found an opportunity to modernize their mainframe programs. Several staff members (listed below) were instrumental in gathering requirements to modernize systems that have been in place for more than 25 years. The three continue working with POE staff to complete the transition. - Craig Roberts – POE and Special Permits Program Supervisor Designing, building and implanting this customized interface will enhance the accuracy of data provided by staff, as well as data being submitted by other POE technology systems. It is expected to save almost 15,000 personnel hours on a yearly basis by automating the manual processes that currently are required in the legacy POE mainframe programs. The enhancement will query Federal and ITD’s Weigh in Motion data to identify the vehicles traveling on the mainline and provide proper safety, credential, size/weight and observation data so staff can determine the proper compliance efforts. In the case of a customer “The efforts of Craig, Joyce and Steve are aligned with ITD’s mission of safety, mobility and economic opportunity," said Compliance Program Manager Reymundo Rodriguez. "They saw a need and an opportunity to enhance our new system to provide our staff a tool to achieve ITD’s mission as well as providing the best customer service to our customers. I appreciate their efforts and commend them for their innovative thinking!”
