DMV/Highway Safety booth
draws Abraham Lincoln, Wyatt Earp, and 2,500 others

More than 2,500 people including Abraham Lincoln and famous gunslingers Wyatt and Virgil Earp stopped at the DMV/Office of Highway Safety booth at the Western Idaho Fair last month to ask questions and learn about seatbelt safety.

This is the 18th consecutive year the DMV has met with and educated the public at the nine day fair in Boise. More than 60 ITD employees helped organize and staff the booth.

“We answered many questions about the Star Card and the documents needed to get one,” DMV Fair Coordinator Tammie Jauregui said.

Fair goers also asked questions about the DMV online service options, new vehicle insurance mandate, Donate Life and other programs.

The Office of Highway Safety demonstrated the importance of seat belts through “eggcidents.” Eggs were driven in a Barbie car into a wall with and without seatbelts, demonstrating a massive difference in outcome. Those wearing a seatbewlt fared much better than the unsecured eggs, which were no longer protected by an intact shell after the demonstration.

“I want to again thank all who helped with and staffed the booth,” Jauregui said. “Our efforts assisted in understanding the requirements of the star card and the importance of seat belts."
