ITD donates old vehicles to West Ada School District

On Sept. 12, ITD donated four older POE/fleet sedans to the West Ada School District shop offices in Meridian for their automotive skills class to work on and expand their repair skills.

Lead Automotive Technology Instructor Brian Cleland said the donated vehicles would be “great for our students to learn on all aspects of repair related to state standards and curriculum. These standards include brake systems, cooling systems, engine repair, air conditioning/heating systems, electrical systems and more.”

“The automotive industry is struggling to find qualified technicians, and we are expanding our program to provide quality training to meet these demands,” he wrote in a letter to ITD Fleet Equipment Manager Steve Spoor. “These donations will provide needed resources to train the 200 students we have in our program each year.”

The donated vehicles were outdated by either mileage or age, and the department would have received little or no money in a trade-in or sell back scenario.

Jeff Rados processed most of the paperwork to make this transfer of ownership, and the opportunity for the students to gain vital skills, happen.
