ITD contingent performs well at
Western Snow & Ice Equipment Roadeo

The ITD contingent of Matt Beckstead from D5, Robin Freeman from D3 and State Roadeo Coordinator Kelley Dick placed in the top ten in four events at the APWA Western Snow & Ice Conference and National Snow Roadeo Sept. 24-27 in Colorado.

Beckstead and Freeman, who traveled to Colorado for the event by virtue of finishing 1-2 in this year’s ITD State Roadeo, combined to finish fourth in the Single Axle skills training competition and ninth in Tandem Axle. Dick went as the administrator of ITD’s roadeo program, coordinating the events, lodging and sessions for Beckstead and Freeman.

The fourth-place finish in the Single Axle was the best that any ITD team has ever done in that event in 24 years of competing at the Western Snow & Ice event. Freeman also finished fourth individually in the Loader event, while Dick finished fifth in the Grader event. It marked the third time since 2011 that Dick has finished in the top ten in the Grader skills event. Dick competes for free as a registrant.

“ITD benefits from learning and sharing ideas for road clearing and best practices at the breakout sessions, and the events just allow us to hone the skills that translate into better service for Idaho road users as we learn how to do our jobs better,” said Dick.
