It’s SNOW time!

Snow isn’t just the white flurries that visit us every winter. At ITD, it’s now an employee-led outreach program looking to help drivers understand how to safely navigate our winters (SNOW).

ITD employees just recognized the idea behind the program as Best of the Best in Customer Service, infusing new energy into the team and bringing funding to launch the program in select districts. Members from the original summit team are kicking off the program in Districts 1, 4 and 6.

“We are looking for individuals passionate about what they do and how it helps the public,” said D.J. Price, the D4 maintenance technician who first brought the team together. “Our goal this year is to softly roll out SNOW, and we’d like anyone and everyone to help.”

SNOW aims to educate drivers on plow safety by connecting them directly with operators and their equipment, but you don’t have to be a plow driver to participate.

“The team developed ready-made activities and presentations so anyone with an interest can talk to their district coordinator and get started, even without a plowing background,” said Jet Johnstone, D6 GIS analyst and SNOW leader.

The team would like to give at least one presentation in the pilot districts before snow really starts to fly. Volunteer presenters will get access to educational materials and training to help them be successful.

“We’re racing the weather, so if you’d like to help, don’t hesitate,” said Dave Bohrn, D1 technician and past presenter.

There are several ways to help, and you don’t have to be in Districts 1, 4 or 6 to do it.

- Volunteer to present
- Identify presentation opportunities
- Develop new content or activities for presentations
- Send the team photos showing winter conditions, crashes or plows

Please contact your district coordinator for more information: Megan Sausser in D1, D.J. Price in D4 and Jet Johnstone in D6.
