¿What the heck is the ECC?

So, how many of you out there have heard about the Employee Communication Council, or ECC, and have wondered what in the world is that?

Well, it’s an employee-led group that was formed as a result of a past Leadership Summit and is made up of our colleagues who have volunteered to assist the department in improving communications.  The key wording there is volunteers who have taken on additional duties in an effort to help ITD continual improve.

Over the past two years, the council has worked directly with the Executive Leadership Team (ELT) and Senior Leadership Team (SLT) on relaying employee concerns, with an emphasis on problem solving and in many instances providing the why.  But, admittedly, due to our lack of resources and available time, there has never been an extensive marketing campaign, so those who know about the ECC have most likely learned about it via word-of-mouth. Until now, our work has largely been behind the scenes.

This particularly came to light because of the department’s new focus on developing the "Ideal Workplace" and several mentions of the ECC in our “Direct from the Director” emails/letters.  So, the ECC wants you all to know that yes, this is a legit council of your peers with support from the ELT and SLT.  We have membership across the entire department and state.

Over the last several months, there has been a renewed focus within the group as we are currently updating our charter and developing better functionality. If there’s one thing every ITD employee can relate to, it’s technological challenges, and the ECC is no different. But, we do have a SharePoint page that provides an opportunity to submit questions to the council.  It’s definitely not a perfect, flawless setup, but for the purposes of sharing communication and providing input, it works.

Additionally, we encourage you all to check out the contacts for the ECC member nearest you. There may also be some additional opportunities for a few new members, so please stay tuned as our final charter should be available soon.  As always, never be afraid to ask questions!

We'll use this space to put out messages to employees or answer your questions.
