D2 support for HQ lab turns
into leadership role for Clawson

Since mid-September, four District 2 employees have traveled to Boise to support the lab with mix-design confirmation and hot mix asphalt testing for all districts.

For Ken Pierson, Frank Allen, Steve Taylor and Chad Clawson, that has meant back-to-back weeks of different motel rooms and time away from families.

As that time comes to a close, Dan Luper and Josh Allen from the D2 shop produced a deluxe asphalt splitting table to upgrade the outdated HQ table.

It features a heated, spinning table top with scales, and of course a small plaque to label the gift.

The gifted table and the employees who use it will now be under the leadership of Clawson, recently promoted to central lab manager. He previously served as an AASHTO fellow in Washington, D.C. and as the D2 Materials Engineer.

“I’m excited that District 2 was able to help. It wasn’t a small ask, and I’m proud that we had people willing to make the extra effort,” Clawson said. “That includes those who traveled and those who helped from the Lewiston area.”

As for his thoughts about his new position: “I see a lot of potential, especially with the great team we have in place and will continue to hire. I only see positive things in the future.”
