Food Safety: How long is too long?

We all have unique holiday traditions, but there's one thing we all have in common: at some point over the next few weeks, we will all leave food out on a countertop as we continue to come back and graze during the course of an afternoon. This one common thread begs the question: how long is it safe to leave food out?

As you would expect, there are various answers for various food products. The charts listed below are good blueprints for these situations. As careful as we are when traveling on the highways, or making sure electrical cords are safely tucked away, we should be equally as safety-minded when it comes to leftovers.
