Employee Spotlight:
D6 Dubois TTO Troy Stone

He is a man of many talents, but sitting still is something this gentleman is not very good at. Always on the go, Troy Stone (D6 TTO in the Dubois shed), is quite the jack of all trades and a staple in the community.

Coming from a rather large family, Troy was born and raised in Dubois along with eight other siblings. After graduating from high school, he left town for two years to attend a vocational tech. school and get his degree in diesel mechanics. After college, he came back home to Dubois and went right to work as a diesel mechanic on a local farm. He worked there for the next 11 years.

Starting out as a mechanic on the farm, he quickly decided that being a mechanic just wasn’t for him. So after his short stint as a mechanic, he was promoted to manager on the same farm.  During his time there, Troy had some pretty colorful stories — including a propane explosion that was most of the reason why he decided to quit and go to work for ITD. Listen to the propane story here!

Amongst his many stories, he mentioned how he met his wife. Frequently attending the local bar at the time and enjoying his youth, one night a friend of his called him up and told him to meet him at the bar. Troy didn’t want to go that night, but his friend told him he had a girl he wanted Troy to meet. You might be surprised to hear this, but Troy jumped at the chance.

After meeting that night on a blind date, they hit it off right away and the rest is history. Cindy and Troy married in 1998 and had a beautiful daughter, Brandi. Tragically, Cindy was diagnosed with terminal cancer and passed away in 2011, and Troy’s father-in-law passed away from cancer in 2012. It was a rough few years for the family, but Brandi and Troy pushed through and continued to stay busy.

Now 20 years old, Brandi is quite the busy gal these days. She is currently working and going to college full time. She is currently focusing on getting her Cetified Nursing Accredidation (CNA), with aspirations of becoming a registered nurse. Troy stays busy year-round with all of his volunteering and extracurricular activities.

Troy is quite the staple in the local community of Dubois! In his “spare” time, Troy volunteers as the head honcho for the local search & rescue team. When asked why, Troy glows as he explains, “I want to help people and give back to the community. We live in a small town and we really needed the help, so I volunteered. I love it and it’s really a thrill to do!”

He has been a volunteer with the search & rescue unit for 20 years now..

Not only does he volunteer for search & rescue, he is also the volunteer fire chief for the Dubois Fire Department. Troy has been volunteering for the fire dept. for 17 years and has been the fire chief for 10 of those years. As you can tell, he truly loves to help others and stay busy.

Troy's volunteering spirit seems to be infectious. Dubois currently has 10 volunteers on the fire dept. and 30 volunteers on the search and rescue team

We’re not done yet, because he simply isn't busy enough!

Troy also volunteers his time with the local high school football team. He used to be the football coach for eight years, and absolutely loved it, until he just didn’t have enough time to continue. Dubois high school joined football teams with Watersprings Church in Idaho Falls. When they began the partnership, Troy volunteered his time as the football team's bus driver, going to and from games and practices.

When not working and volunteering, Troy loves to spend time playing outdoors. He really enjoys fishing, snowmobiling, four-wheeling, golfing and hunting. Troy likes hunting, but really likes helping others call and bring in the game — he just enjoy the experience and just being out in nature.

If you haven’t already noticed, Troy loves to help others and has a heart of gold! Dabbling in a little bit of everything and never sitting still, Troy is truly one of a kind. Next time you are in Dubois and decide to take a pit stop at the local Ike’s 66 right off the Interstate, drive on over to the shed and say hi…I’m sure he’d love to chat!
