ITD blood drives save estimated 16,200 lives
since Whitney took the reins

The Idaho Transportation Department’s blood drives in Boise accounted for 162 units of blood in 2019, which equates to 486 lives that can be saved by those donations.

“That was the fifth-best total in the entire state among government campaigns,” wrote Joshua Drube, the account representative at the American Red Cross, in an email to ITD Blood Drive Coordinator Trish Whitney Jan. 15. “All I have to say is you are a ROCKSTAR! Thank you again for a great kick off to the year.”

Whitney, who has coordinated the monthly blood draws for ITD for at least 30 years, estimates that there have been approximately 5,400 ITD employee blood donors in360 monthly blood draws since she has coordinated the event. That equates to 16,200 lives possibly saved!

In 2018, ITD employees donated 152 units in the monthly HQ blood draws — a total that had the potential to save up to 456 lives.

The next blood drive at ITD HQ is scheduled for Feb. 13. New donors are always welcomed. Please contact Trish at 7-8840 for more details or to sign up.
