Department's Focus Areas for 2020 include Ideal Workplace initiative and continuing to deliver on customer expectations

Director Brian Ness has announced ITD’s 2020 Focus Areas, and the list includes both internal and external measures.

Internally, ITD will continue to focus on developing employee skills and abilities, implementing respectful workplace training, improving accountability, and providing additional leadership training, with the idea that any employee can be a leader.

The department will focus on an Ideal Workplace initiative, which places a premium on creating an engaging, safe work environment for our 1,600+ employees. The Ideal Workplace includes a continued emphasis on employee safety, constructive culture, leadership development, and a respectful workplace. You’ll be hearing more about this initiative and how it will be rolled out to employee groups soon.

The department also is focused on continuing to deliver timely, cost-effective, quality solutions for our customers.

The focus has already taken root in some business groups, such as the Division of Highways, while other groups are finding new ways every day to embrace the concept. In the case of Highways, it involves a statewide commitment in regard to people, processes and technology. They have been focused on delivering the construction program on time and within budget and scope.

The same teamwork-centered approach is likely to be found across our districts by the end of the year — or sooner — with reliable and sustainable outcomes at the center of it all.

"We will continue that approach in 2020, while striving to be even more efficient and successful," Director Ness said. "But we still have unmet needs. The economy and population of our state continues to grow, which puts a strain on resources. We will continue to do our part to meet the challenge by building on ITD's status as a model agency for the wise investment of taxpayer dollars and good stewards of Idaho's transportation investments."
