Statewide ITD roadeo events cancelled
District equipment roadeos scheduled for May and June have been cancelled following concerns about the ability to safely maintain social distancing and gather in large groups at these popular events.
“We know this decision comes at a time when employees are looking forward to going back into the office and back to their normal lives,” Roadeo Coordinator Kelley Dick said. “However, we must continue to show our appreciation for our co-workers and their loved ones by continuing to physically distance ourselves.”
The equipment roadeo program remains in place and will be revived next year in earnest.
“This program is valued for bringing employees from all divisions together and for improving competency with the equipment,” Dick said. “It’s important that our operators continue to practice safe use of equipment, and we expect next year the competition will be even more intense.”
Dick said each event can draw in 80 employees, with operators serving as competitors and other divisions filling in as volunteer judges. Like many other conferences and trainings around the state, they have been cancelled or postponed.
“Throughout all of this, I have seen my co-workers remain flexible and adapt to these challenging circumstances, and this is no different,” Dick said. “Let’s continue to show our appreciation for each other and come back together next year as a stronger, more resilient group.”
