aid truckers by saving valuable time

Truckers needing special permits to travel Idaho’s highways are required to carry either a hard or digital copy of the applicable maps and attachments in their vehicles. They also needed to stop by a port of entry to obtain copies of the documents or contact the Permits Unit to have them mailed.

The detailed maps, which are formatted on 11" x 17" pages, were sometimes impossible for the truckers to print. They were also difficult to view on smart phones and tablets.

To address the problem, the Special Permits Unit reformatted the maps into ITD’s six administrative districts on separate 8 ½" x 11" pages. The attachments were also moved to the smaller format. The documents are now emailed to the customers and also available at a new website – permits4idaho.com.

“Now, truckers no longer have to go to the ports of entry for their documents or watch the mail. They can print the appropriate map and more clearly see the detail,” Permits Unit Supervisor Craig Roberts said. “They can also download the documents directly to their digital devices and more easily read them.”
