Personnel mapping process

Hiring and bringing onboard a new employee is a complicated, multi-step process. In the DMV, this tasked was managed solely by its Business Operations Manager, Beverlie Edwards.

“I was the single point of contact and subject matter expert on the process,” Edwards said. “This made moving positions through the process take more time. In addition, when I was out of the office or focused on a high-priority request, even more time was required.”

To eliminate this problem, the DMV Operations Team mapped the entire personnel process, from the moment an employee gave notice of quitting or retiring, until after the new employee has started work. The team also created job instruction breakdowns to accomplish each step.

The mapped process is now allowing any member of the team to manage all or part of the process.

“The mapping process also helped make supervisors more aware of all the steps needed to make a personnel change,”Edwards explained. “They can now follow the process and anticipate when their new employee will be onboard.”
