Adding notary to DMV offerings
cuts time, better serves the public

DMV Motor Vehicle Investigators help both in- and out-of-state customers solve complex vehicle titling problems. Often, the paperwork requires the use of a notary public to confirm the identity of the individual or organization. Signatures often need to be notarized as well.

This creates an inconvenience for customers as they need to find a notary public, make an appointment and have the document notarized before the process can begin to issue a vehicle title.

To reduce this time and provide better service, five of the state’s nine Motor Vehicle Investigators are being made notary publics. This also allows investigators to improve the process of their law enforcement duties by notarizing victim statements during investigations.

There was no cost to the department for the investigators to become notary publics aside from the notary stamp and register book.

“Making the investigators notary publics has eliminated a burdensome and often lengthy step for our customers,” Dealer Operations Unit Supervisor Brian Hokanson said. “It is another example of our team recognizing an issue and finding a way to improve service.
