Preparedness Month reminder that
safety and readiness go hand-in-hand

Being prepared. Being safe. Being secure. These are all aspects of the culture ITD wants to create for employees working at headquarters and in the districts. This year, that frequently extends to home as well. September is preparedness month, so as we work toward the Safety Stand Down at the end of the month, it is a reminder that ensuring safety takes daily vigilance.

“Part of being prepared is being safe in our daily actions,” explained ITD Emergency Supervisor Neal Murphy. “As we approach the Safety Stand Down, we can review our actions in an emergency, increase our preparedness understanding, and review our emergency procedures to make sure we are always ready and safe.”

Just as the COVID crisis reinforced our need for a plan at the department level and within work groups to continue important operations, the same can be said for us each having a Continuity of Operations (COOP) plan for our own individual wellbeing.

“Many times we think we are covered, that nothing bad will happen, but then like lightning it strikes from out of nowhere,” Murphy added. “Making a plan, developing a kit, communicating that plan, and developing a rally point are key to keep you, your family and co-workers safe!”

“Readiness is a mindset you have in any environment, whether at home, recreating or at work.”

The Preparedness Month link has a lot of great facts some common sense and some you may not have considered. Please take a moment to review it, also look at the emergency procedures book on SharePoint or in the office for ITD Readiness and please don’t hesitate to reach out to Neal Murphy anytime.
