Blackfoot crew gives shed a fresh new look

As the old saying goes, "out with the old and in with the new"— and that’s exactly what the Blackfoot maintenance crew did with the Blackfoot shed.

Tired of looking at the old pink-colored building day in and day out and wanting to really show off who ITD is and what we represent, the crew decided as a team to bring some new colors to the dull shed. After lengthy debate iabout what colors to use and the layout of such colors, the crew came to the Blackfoot foreman, Troy Despain, with the color scheme and layout of what they had planned.

Impressed with their plans and work they did to put this all together, Troy moved forward with this great idea. After taking some time to gather costs, supplies, and figuring out the timeframe for completion, the crew got to work.

Before getting started though, the crew and Troy had this idea of mounting a big sign of the ITD logo & mission statement on the front of the shed. Troy reached out to the Boise sign shop and they made a beautiful 72-inch round ITD sign that creatively includes the ITD mission statement printed in High-Visibility, Retro-reflective paint!

The Blackfoot crew worked endlessly to complete this project quickly and efficiently, with the end goal of making this look as perfect as possible.

Working tirelessly to finish what they started, the crew was able to complete the project in a little under a week. They painted a whopping 8,000 square feet of building and that was only the outside, they haven’t had a chance to paint the inside of the shed yet.

Considering the size of the project, supplies only cost $3,000 and 94.5 personnel hours. That’s pretty darn amazing.

“We, as a shed, have pride in what we do and where we work. We wanted that pride to be reflected in the building and its appearance,” said Despain, “It is easy to just show up to work, punch the clock, do your job, and go home.  This is not the case for our shed, we believe in the old saying "anything worth doing is worth doing well.”

Proud of their hard work and efforts, the crew can go to work and be proud of what they accomplished. The public can also see it from the highway (US-26) day or night because they used retro-reflective paint!

“Director Ness has encouraged ITD staff to brand who we are, and my crew took this to a new level," Despain commented  "We left no question about who we represent, and more importantly, about what we stand for…Your Safety, Your Mobility and Your Economic Opportunity.”
