Removing trees substantially improves safety along U.S. 20 corridor near Island Park
Removing trees along U.S. 20 south of Island Park significantly improved traffic safety in the years since the tree removal, the Idaho Transportation Department announced. Clearing trees on each side of a seven-mile stretch of the highway several years ago to create greater visibility for drivers has helped reduce crashes by 31 percent.
ITD publishes new user-friendly annual report
The Idaho Transportation Department’s goal of greater transparency and accountability took a significant step forward with release of a simplified and condensed four-page annual report of the department’s activities this year. The new citizen-oriented format is more visually appealing, and includes a transportation overview, department accomplishments and performance measures, financial information, revenue trends and future focus areas.
Annual D4 Christmas Party raises spirits, money
Each year, ITD’s District 4 office donates the proceeds of their employee Christmas party to worthy local charities, and this year’s efforts for about 100 employees on Dec. 9 netted $3,400 and canned food to be split among five needy groups.
AAA: 98.6 Million Americans Expected to Hit the Year-End Travel Byways
A recipe that includes gains in disposable income, a longer travel period, and a decent dose of consumer confidence is expected to yield 98.6 million American travelers during a 13-day year-end travel period starting December 23 and ending January 4, including 516,000 Idahoans.
Camas County recognized for zero fatalities in 2013
In a county with low population, a single fatality due to a vehicle crash can affect the community with more impact than is felt in areas of more people. In sparsely-populated Camas County, 2013 was a very good year.
Encore (12-12-14): ITD's 25-year time capsule full of memories, peculiarities of the late '80s
Given a quarter-century of hindsight, the items unearthed from ITD’s 1989 time capsule Dec. 9 provided an atmosphere of nostalgia and amusement. The capsule was unearthed at 9 a.m. from the corner of the department's East Annex parking lot, in the same location where it was buried as part of a dedication of a grove of trees donated by the University of Idaho’s forestry department for their centennial celebration. Trees were planted in all 44 Idaho counties as part of that effort.

A law degree, more than 52 hours of training and attendance at national conferences have earned Idaho Transportation Department Hearing Officer Skip Carter national recognition through the National Association of Hearing Officials (NAHO).
