April is distracted driving awareness month, proclamation-signing set for Thursday
April is National Distracted Driving Awareness Month so the Idaho Transportation Department and its safety partners encourage motorists to eliminate distractions and keep their attention on the task of safe driving. Gov. C.L. “Butch” Otter will sign a proclamation at 10 a.m. Thursday (April 2) at the Statehouse in Boise, designating April 2015 as Distracted Driving Awareness Month in Idaho.

Grants of up to $60,000 are available to organizations statewide through April 24 via the Idaho Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Curb Ramp Program. ITD plans 30 highway construction projects in eastern Idaho this year. Work on this estimated $12.7 million batch of projects will enhance and preserve state highways, improving safety and ride for motorists. Projects will start once contracts are awarded, construction is arranged and weather allows.

In the first week of March, 44 House members and 22 Senators received legislative identification cards from ITD’s Driver Services during a two-day event at the Idaho Statehouse. The department provides this service to the legislative body every two years, and has prepared these IDs for nearly two decades.
