Stokes marks 10 years at ITD Headquarters
Between Scott and his dad, there's been a Stokes at ITD since 1944 (with a small gap between Eldon's retirement and Scott taking the stage). Scott is part of the fabric of this place; definitely one of the family. So his 10th anniversary here at Headquarters is noteworthy. On Feb. 26, 2007, he moved from district engineer in D1 to deputy director in Boise.
Yankovich starts as new Internal Review Manager March 6
Michelle Yankovich will start her new role as Internal Review Manager at ITD Headquarters on March 6, reporting directly to ITD Chief Administrative Officer Charlene McArthur.
North Fork Payette River Bridge wins Precast Concrete awards
The North Fork Payette River Bridge 2015 replacement on Idaho 55 in Cascade was recognized January 9 from the Precast/Prestressed Concrete Institute as a Design Award winner for a bridge with a main span measuring 76-149 feet. It was also honorable mention from the same group for all precast concrete structures, regardless of dimension.
Increasing density may be the answer to longer-lasting pavements
On Feb. 16, the Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) hosted a workshop funded by a joint initiative between the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and the Asphalt Institute as industry groups look for ways to extend pavement life. Adding a dash of density may be the answer.
Record 3.2 trillion miles driven on U.S. roads in 2016
New estimates released today by the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) show that U.S. driving topped 3.2 trillion miles last year. It is the fifth straight year of increased mileage on public roads throughout the nation, and underscores the demands facing America’s roads and bridges, and reaffirms calls for greater investment in surface transportation infrastructure.

In Boise, a small cash drawer in the basement boiler room at the Highway Department Building spawned what would become a full-service credit union for employees. even employees contributed $5.25 each to create it.
