Board schedules meeting, tour of D-5 routes
The Idaho Transportation Board will visit southeast Idaho as part of its May business meeting and tour Wednesday and Thursday. The District 5 tour starts in Pocatello Wednesday morning and travels south to Preston and returns later in the day. Board members will meet with local officials in Preston and Chubbuck.

Ryan Landers, a sophomore at Cascade High School, worked with Human Resource Services (HRS) staff to schedule a day of professional observation in April. Michelle George and Cindy Fosella of HRS put him in touch with Nestor Fernandez, who in turn scheduled quality learning time with four ITD engineers.

CE News honors Brinkman as a 'Rising Star'
Civil Engineering News features ITD’s Jason Brinkman among the nation’s top “rising stars” of the engineering field in its current edition of the online magazine CE News. Bob Drake, editor of the magazine, announced Brinkman’s inclusion in the prestigious group in March.

District 2 initiates annual roadeo series
A different breed of cowboys will strap on their boots, mount up and chew the dust as the annual roadeo competition resumes in Idaho this spring. Equipment operators and snowplow drivers from District 2 initiated the ITD Roadeo circuit that tests driving skills and equipment knowledge, Tuesday at Dworshak Dam near Orofino.

D-3 flattening median, reducing roadside distractions
District 3’s maintenance crews will work this summer to improve safety along two critical highway corridors -- on Interstate 84 east of Boise and on Idaho 55 about three miles north of Donnelly.

The Idaho State Archives will sponsor its second Night of Flight film series at 2205 Old Pen Road in Boise. The evening will feature one of the vintage 16mm Division of Aeronautics films recently donated to the archives from a local resident.

Encore (5-10-13): Oh, that sinking feeling
Monday night (May 6) ITD maintenance crews responded to a great depression on Idaho 78 east of Givens Hot Springs, near Marsing. The culprits, as they were in the tragic death last summer of Sonia Lopez, were gophers that undermined the roadway, causing the surface to weaken and sag.

Encore (5-10-13): GIS symposium looks at emerging technologies
Delegates from throughout the U.S., Canada and abroad converged in Boise this week for four concurrent technology expositions: the 26th annual Geospatial Information Systems for Transportation symposium, AASHTO’s Administrative Subcommittee on Information Systems (ASIS), the Transportation Research Board and a Business Intelligence Peer Review.

In its continuing effort to improve the quality and cost effectiveness of its services, ITD changed the way it issues construction bid material. It now uses Quest Construction Data Network (QuestCDN) services to bring contractors online digital project advertisements and digital project bidding documents.
