Legislative committees pass rules governing 129,000-pound truck routes
Idaho state Senate and House transportation committees passed proposed administrative rules this week governing 129,000-pound truck routes. The rules are necessary to implement three related bills from the 2013 Legislature. "This is great news, and a conclusion to a lot of hard work by many," explained Mollie McCarty, ITD governmental affairs manager.

Idahoans weigh in on 2014's biggest non-legislative issue
Road funding proposals may not get a hearing during the 2014 Legislature, but a new AAA Idaho survey suggests a conversation with taxpayers may be just what the doctor ordered. Conducted the third week in December, AAA's statewide poll of 404 voters includes some expected and not-so-predictable perspectives about how best state and local communities can pay for an aging road and bridges infrastructure.

Employees
Employees contribute nearly $580 in loose change to help Bartlome
Organizers wish to thank everyone who contributed loose change to help Boone Bartlome on his long road to recovery. A total of $579.14 was raised and deposited into the "Benefit Boone Fund" at US Bank. Bartlome was moved to a rehabilitation facility in Denver, Colo., where he and his parents will remain during the healing process.

Have a safe game plan Super Bowl Sunday, don't drive impaired
Don't be a loser on Super Bowl Sunday by driving impaired. The Idaho Transportation Department and its law enforcement partners remind fans to stick to a safe game plan. "We know people will be going to local bars or restaurants, or to a neighbor or friend's house to watch the game," explained Mary Burke, with ITD's Office of Highway Safety. "Make a life-saving choice and designate a sober driver before the party begins. And, if you plan to drink, leave your keys at home."

Encore (1-17-14) New division administrators named
Two new administrators have been selected to head divisions created through a Division of Highways realignment. Dave Jones was selected as administrator for the Division of Engineering Products and Plans, and Blake Rindlisbacher was selected as administrator for the Division of Engineering Services.

Encore (1-17-14) D-5's Petersdorf saves department time, money and improves efficiency with paint bead innovation
David Petersdorf of the District 5 Striping Crew came up with an innovative solution to a consistent problem in regard to the application of reflective paint beads last fall, saving the department time and money. In doing so, he also earned a bonus for innovation.

Encore (1-17-14) ITD advises citizens to use official sites for motor vehicle business
ITD encourages customers to use its official websites when renewing a vehicle registration online and for other Department of Motor Vehicle (DMV) business. Unofficial websites might provide Idaho DMV information and claim to provide DMV-related services, including some with associated fees. These sites may offer renewal assistance, practice tests, driver's license records, motor vehicle records and other services, but they are not affiliated with the state of Idaho.

Encore (1-17-14) National AMBER Alert Awareness Day celebrated with poster contest
The 18th anniversary of the AMBER Alert system was Monday, Jan. 13. AMBER Alert in Idaho is a program of voluntary cooperation among broadcasters, cable television providers and local and state agencies to enhance the public's ability to assist in recovering abducted children.
