Idaho Transportation Department Director Brian Ness honored by alma mater
Trine University honored Idaho Transportation Department Director Brian Ness, a 1980 alum, with an Outstanding Achievement Award. Ness was recognized for his achievements on Friday (Oct. 3), during a dinner and reception at Trine University based in Angola, Ind. The award is given annually to alumni who have attained a high level of achievement in their profession, are well thought of in their community and who uphold the ideals of Trine University.

Transportation secretary discusses future with UI students
The nation has to change the way it approaches funding transportation infrastructure, U.S. Department of Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx told a group of students Wednesday (Oct. 1) during a town hall at the University of Idaho. Foxx discussed future transportation policy as well as spotlighted President Barack Obama's GROW AMERICA plan.

Public transportation group's quarterly meeting planned for Oct. 15
The Public Transportation Advisory Council (PTAC) will hear a performance report on how Idaho’s public transit providers are doing and how reorganization within public transportation will better reflect a grassroots approach to customer service Wednesday, Oct. 15. The meeting will be from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Idaho Transportation Department’s (ITD) District 3 Office, 8150 Chinden Blvd., in Garden City.

Public Meeting for Upcoming Broadway Bridge replacement draws 155
A public meeting on the future replacement of the Broadway Bridge spanning the Boise River near Boise State University Oct. 2 drew 155 attendees commenting on the bridge's design, a full-closure versus a partial closure during construction, and how pedestrians and bicyclists would access the Greenbelt, among other proposed changes.

Innovations in Lardo Bridge reconstruction featured by FHWA social media
The innovations involved in the reconstruction of the 83-year-old Lardo Bridge on Idaho 55 on the southwest shore of Payette Lake in McCall have been recognized by the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) in their social media state-by-state campaign. Ralph L. Wadsworth and Lochner used ITD's conceptual design to complete the bridge design and construct a new bridge that will accommodate one lane of traffic in each direction along with bicycle and pedestrian facilities on each side of the bridge.

Encore: (10-3-2014) Busiest state highway gets needed relief
Eagle Road is one of the busiest highways in Idaho - it is the busiest non-interstate route in the Gem State - and a major commuter route in the Treasure Valley. And it is only going to get busier. Within the next 20 years, traffic on Eagle Road is projected to double, from approximately 40,000 to over 80,000 vehicles per day.

The Public Outreach Planner (POP) was recently honored with another award, this one from the American Planning Association's (APA) Idaho Chapter. Specifically, the POP received The Gem Award, which recognizes planning achievement and/or leadership in "Building Better Partnerships" the theme for the annual chapter conference.

The Great Idaho ShakeOut is approaching with all Idahoans encouraged to "Drop, Cover and Hold On" during the national earthquake drill. Scheduled for Oct. 16 at 10:16 a.m., the Shakeout is an international event intended to get people prepared for a major earthquake wherever they are.
