ITD's new citizen-focused annual report recognized for excellence, serves as national model
ITD’s new citizen-oriented annual report, released in December 2014, has been recognized for excellence. A national group encouraging more effective approaches to communicating financial information to the public has given its endorsement of the report as an excellent example of the presentation of performance and financial information to taxpayers.

ITD’s teen driver website goes mobile friendly
An important online resource for young drivers and their parents has become mobile-device friendly. Recent changes to the website, at www.idahoteendriving.org, allow the web-based resource to smoothly display its highway safety-related content to smart phones, tablets and laptops.

ITD District 3 Traffic Engineer Kevin Sablan has been selected as the new Design and Traffic Services Engineer at Headquarters. He replaces Carl Main, who retired from the position in January.

U.S. 95 overlay near Council wins national asphalt paving award
Work on the Idaho Transportation Department’s 40-mile pavement preventive-maintenance project on U.S. 95 and Idaho 55, between Alpine Store and New Meadows, late last summer and early fall, was recognized with a national asphalt paving award for Knife River Corp., the $6.7-million project’s contractor.

New ITD research project evaluates seismic performance of grouted couplers in Accelerated Bridge Construction
Anticipating increased demand for accelerated construction to minimize inconvenience to drivers and reduce construction time and cost, ITD's Bridge Section is working through the Research Program to evaluate bridge couplers that may be necessary in Idaho's seismic conditions. Besides saving time and money, and reducing the impact to motorists, this may also improve the durability of bridge structures.

Public transportation group offers new mobility application
A new Mobility Support Services application is now available from the Idaho Transportation Department's Public Transportation Group. The application is for local groups, companies, entities and individuals interested in or already involved in public transportation. Deadline for submitting completed applications is March 26.

Encore (02-20-15): History, archaeology preserved in award-winning Sandpoint project
The construction of an alternate route for U.S. 95 through Sandpoint several years ago has already been recognized numerous times. On Jan. 7, another award was added to the list – this time for the archaeological work initiated before the construction project even began.

Encore (02-20-15): Reese celebrates half a century of watershed moments
When he started with the Idaho Highway Department (later ITD), gas was 19 cents a gallon and he earned $1.30 per hour. There was no retirement system, PERSI or otherwise. His first semester’s tuition in college was $160. He bought a brand new station wagon for $2,800.
