Preserving department history digitally
The department has a rich tradition, dating back to the creation of the Department of Highways (we transitioned to the Idaho Transportation Department in 1974). At the end of 1918, we had more than 2,200 miles of road, but only one five-mile section of paved highway existed in the entire state. Things have definitely changed since then. Many milestones have been achieved. We do not want to lose that history.

Traveler Services
ITD's popular 511 app gets new features
The Idaho Traveler Services 511 smart-phone application (app) just got better with the release of several major upgrades, including a new hands-free option. ITD's free 511 App is a recent addition to the department's popular 511 Traveler Information system that puts up-to-the-minute information about the condition of Idaho highways at the fingertips of drivers.

Division of Aeronautics
Idaho airports recognized for dedication and excellence
At the 2015 FAA Northwest Mountain Region Conference held in Seattle, Wash., April 6–8, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) recognized airports that have gone above and beyond. Mountain Home Municipal and Pullman Airports were two of the airports to receive awards.

District 4
Signs warning of high winds installed near Perrine, Hansen bridges
Gale-force winds and violent gusts often sweep across southern Idaho, sometimes strong enough to topple a vehicle. This scenario forced the closure of the Perrine and Hansen bridges a little more than a year ago. As a safety measure, ITD installed signs yesterday (Thursday, April 16) warning of these high winds near the entrance of both bridges.

TIGER-funded U.S. 95 project from Worley north gets underway April 20
The much-anticipated second phase in the reconstruction and improvement of U.S. 95 north from Worley starts Monday (April 20). Construction on this 2.75-mile segment is expected to finish by Nov. 1.

AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety
New study reveals when, where and how much motorists drive
On average, Americans drive 29.2 miles per day, making two trips with an average total duration of 46 minutes. This and other revealing data are the result of a ground-breaking study currently underway by the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety and the Urban Institute.

Encore (04-10-15): North-central region chosen as proving ground for ITD's award-winning and money-saving winter road system
The Idaho Transportation Department's north-central region (District 2) contains 1,500 lane miles packed into a five-county area covering more than 13,000 square miles of diverse geography and rugged terrain. It represented the perfect proving ground to demonstrate the effectiveness of the department’s winter road-clearing system.

Encore (04-10-15): ACE Academy offers teenagers chance to learn about careers in aviation
Navigating small airplanes, controlling air traffic and exploring Blackhawk helicopters are all part of the Aviation Career Exploration (ACE) Academy, June 15-17, hosted by ITD's Division of Aeronautics in Boise. Thirty teenagers will have the opportunity to participate in the academy, which is open to high school students ages 14-18. The deadline for submitting applications is May 8.

Encore (04-10-15): Public Transportation advisory group seeks public comment on 2015 State Management Plan
Idaho Transportation Department’s Public Transportation advisory group is seeking public comment on the 2015 State Management Plan to be released in May 2015. The plan governs grant programs offer federal financial assistance to organizations that serve the citizens of Idaho.
