Idaho Transportation Board
Board to consider route widening, agreements and system adjustments at monthly meeting in Orofino
Widening a local recreational and commercial route, reviewing non-construction agreements, and considering adjustments to the State Highway System are all on the agenda next week at the monthly meeting of the Idaho Transportation Board. The meeting will be held in Orofino April 29 and 30. The monthly meeting is on the first day, and the second day is the tour of area highways.

Rock-splatter skirting protects maintenance trucks, saves almost $22K
Rocks were spraying from the road, kicked up by snowplow blades, breaking and damaging ITD’s engine belts in District 2 Maintenance trucks at an alarming rate. The problem was forcing the district to replace belts at least every two weeks.

Adopt-a-Highway
2.5 million pounds of litter removed through Idaho's Adopt-a-Highway program in quarter century
Idaho roadsides owe a debt of thanks to the state's Centennial Celebration a quarter-century ago. A program was created 25 years ago in the anti-litter fervor of the statewide “Idaho is too great to litter” campaign, spurred on by then-Gov. Andrus. On April 30, 1990, the department introduced the Adopt-a-Highway program to help keep Gem State roadsides clean.

ITD Maintenance
Equipment roadeo season about to begin next go-around
The new season of equipment roadeos will be starting soon to measure ITD's best equipment operators.  Following a 20-year drought, District 5 maintenance operators have won the last two statewide competitions, and will look to make it three in a row when the competitions begin again in the next few weeks.

I-84 Snake River twin bridge replacement will begin in early May
Work to replace two Interstate 84 bridges spanning the Snake River is expected to begin in early May. The two-year project will replace the 1,100-foot twin bridges at milepost 216 near the Declo Interchange.

Identity Theft
Nearly 29,000 lbs. of personal paper shredded at Protect ID Day
Event organizers report that 28,710 lbs. of paper — personally identifying documents such as credit-card statements, tax-return documents, financial documents, legal notifications — were shredded at the annual Save your Identity Day April 18 at the department’s headquarters in Boise.

Encore (04-17-15): Preserving department history digitally
The department has a rich tradition, dating back to the creation of the Department of Highways (we transitioned to the Idaho Transportation Department in 1974). At the end of 1918, we had more than 2,200 miles of road, but only one five-mile section of paved highway existed in the entire state. Things have definitely changed since then. Many milestones have been achieved. We do not want to lose that history.

Encore (04-17-15): ITD's popular 511 app gets new features
The Idaho Traveler Services 511 smart-phone application (app) just got better with the release of several major upgrades, including a new hands-free option. ITD's free 511 App is a recent addition to the department's popular 511 Traveler Information system that puts up-to-the-minute information about the condition of Idaho highways at the fingertips of drivers.

District 4
Encore (04-17-15): Signs warning of high winds installed at Perrine,Hansen bridges
Gale-force winds and violent gusts often sweep across southern Idaho, sometimes strong enough to topple a vehicle. This scenario forced the closure of the Perrine and Hansen bridges a little more than a year ago. As a safety measure, ITD installed signs yesterday (Thursday, April 16) warning of these high winds near the entrance of both bridges.

Encore (04-17-15): TIGER-funded U.S. 95 project from Worley north gets underway April 27
The much-anticipated second phase in the reconstruction and improvement of U.S. 95 north from Worley starts Monday (April 27). Construction on this 1.3-mile segment is expected to finish by Nov. 1.
