Idaho's 511 traveler services site adds new features, improvements
Recent changes to Idaho Transportation Department’s 511 Idaho Traveler Services website are meant to enhance a user’s experience when the popular website is accessed for current highway and travel information. “We’ve updated and improved the quality of what we have been delivering for the past 10 years,” said Tony Ernest, ITD's traveler services coordinator.

SAN ANTONIO (Reuters) - A strong economy and cheap gas have put more motorists on U.S. roads, leading to the worst-ever traffic congestion and forcing the average urban commuter to waste about 42 hours a year stuck in traffic jams, a report released on Wednesday said.

U.S. DOT
U.S. driving hits historic high in year's first half
New estimates released by the U.S. Department of Transportation’s (USDOT) Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) show that U.S. driving topped 1.54 trillion miles in the first half of 2015, beating the previous record – 1.5 trillion, set in June 2007. This is more than double the amount driven during the same period in 1981, continuing a trend of America’s driving mileage doubling nearly every generation.

Bridge strike on I-15 overpass near Blackfoot closes lanes
The Riverton Road overpass, about a mile south of Blackfoot, was struck by a track hoe riding on the trailer of a semi-truck in the morning Aug. 20. Riverton Road crosses Interstate 15 at that location. The overpass remains closed pending repairs later this fall/winter.

Geotechical Engineers
Encore (08-21-15): TD's Buu continues history of strong showing by department geotechs
Since 1975, ITD’s geologists and geotechnical engineer have participated in the Northwest Geotechnical Workshop, held annually by the 10 northwest states. The 40th workshop was recently held in Gleneden Beach, Ore. in early August, with Tri Buu earning the prestigious Mr. Northwest Geotech Award for contributions to the industry. It was just the latest recognition for ITD’s award-winning geotechs.
