First transportation projects using new revenue already finishing

Preston’s Beckstead nabs second place at national Snow & Ice competition
Southeastern Idaho continues to perform well in the road-clearing and equipment-operation skills that translate into safer, better routes for drivers. For the second year in a row, Matt Beckstead of the Preston Maintenance shed competed in the Western Snow & Ice Conference and National Truck Roadeo in Colorado.  This year he finished second from among 55 regional competitors in the Loader event at the competition Sept. 30.

Disadvantaged Business Enterprise
Northern, north-central Idaho workshops Oct. 20-23 show how to do business with the government
People may learn basic guidelines for doing business with the government at free workshops in Sandpoint, Post Falls, Kamiah and Lewiston Oct. 20-23. Participants will learn how to find government projects that are out for bid, required licenses and registrations, and the differences between state and federal contracting.

Encore (10-02-15): ITD Director Ness offers security, emergency management plan
ITD Director Brian Ness revealed his plan to upgrade security and emergency-management measures for state transportation departments at the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) annual meeting in Chicago. The AASHTO Board of Directors approved the plan Monday (Sept. 28).

Encore (10-02-15): Bryant’s award-winning photography continues years later
Dan Bryant has been producing winning photography for more than a decade, starting in 2001 with recognition from FHWA for pictures of flowers taken on roadsides during his days as a foreman working out of the District 3 maintenance shed at Banks.

The calendar may say early October, and the slick winter-driving season is not yet here, but the ability to look ahead is one of the attributes noted by the National Weather Service (NWS) in awarding ITD’s southeastern Idaho office the coveted StormReady designation.

Encore (10-02-15): Lewiston's Spalding Bridge repair wins national award for environmental efforts
The Spalding Bridge repair project in Lewiston was presented with an American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) President's Award for environmental stewardship Sunday, Sept. 27 at AASHTO’s annual meeting in Chicago.
