AASHTO Leadership Thanks Congress for Passage of Historic, Bipartisan Surface Transportation Legislation
President Obama signed into a law a five-year, $305 billion highway bill Dec. 4, with just hours to spare before the scheduled expiration of the nation's road and transit spending. It marked the first time in a decade that Congress approved a long-term surface transportation authorization giving state departments of transportation the certainty to plan and implement significant investments in the nation's aging infrastructure.

Lewiston Hill project on U.S. 95 wins national asphalt paving award
The recent U.S. 95 Lewiston Hill reconstruction project has received the National Asphalt Pavement Association’s (NAPA) award. Knife River Construction, the project’s prime contractor, won the award for quality paving.

Highway Safety, Communication collaborate on "Don't Wreck the Holiday" campaign
ITD's Office of Highway Safety and Office of Communication collaborated recently on an impaired driving campaign that will bring 160, 30-second Public Service Announcements (PSAs) to television sets around the Gem State during the holidays through a partnership with KNIN Channel 9 (FOX in the Boise market).

Encore (12-04-15): Strong Highway Safety Partnerships fuel strategic planning workshop Dec. 1
Yes, steps remain to be taken on the journey Toward Zero Deaths on Idaho's highways. Yet, the five-year average number of fatalities has dropped from about 237 per year when the last strategic plan was finalized (guiding 2012-2016 efforts), to an average of 197 today, showing that we are moving in the right direction.

Public Transportation
Encore (12-04-15): Bathrick’s first year as PT Manager filled with challenges, achievements
Mark Bathrick took the reins as the manager of ITD’s Public Transportation Office a year ago, in mid-November 2014. In the 12 months since, the section has been completely overhauled, creating initiatives that dovetail with the department’s overall vision, fostered an environment that spurs public transportation providers toward success, and also managed to save over $600,000 dollars in annual costs.
