A 10-second head-start for pedestrians crossing the street before traffic got a green light – it was a simple enough idea to increase safety at the existing traffic signal near the Hailey Post Office, but it took about three years of planning and coordination to accomplish.

It's in the cards: ITD developed innovative electronic medical-card reporting program
Although necessary, the process of filling out certified medical cards for commercial driver’s license (CDL) holders and filing them with state driver licensing agencies is not always efficient for medical examiners, drivers and DMV employees alike. So the Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) looked for a solution to streamline the process, and today it utilizes an innovative approach that makes the entire operation much more convenient.

ITD awarded one of eight FHWA job-training grants
Citing a need for more skilled highway construction workers, the Idaho Transportation Department was one of eight state departments of transportation to share in job-training grants totaling $3 million from the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA). Idaho will receive more than $198,000 to provide five weeks of training for new heavy-equipment operators and other skilled personnel.

Transportation board returns to Treasure Valley for monthly meeting June 15-16
The Idaho Transportation Board learned about the future of Middleton and status of Boise’s Broadway Bridge project during a Treasure Valley tour conducted as part of the board’s June meeting held at ITD’s District 3 office June 15-16. The board toured District 3 on June 15. Some of the activities included visiting with the Middleton mayor, who talked about the city’s efforts to plan for its continued growth, and viewing the Broadway Bridge, which is being replaced in Boise.

Encore (06-17-16): Maupin wins back-to-back state roadeo titles, joins exclusive club
District 6’s Trent Maupin, of the Sugar City maintenance shed, won the 2016 state roadeo title June 14 in Idaho Falls, joining an exclusive list of former winners to have earned back-to-back state titles. Only three other drivers have won consecutive titles in the event’s 23-year history.
