Diatrict 1 - Innovation
Sliding girder installer saves significant money, reduces bridge closures by months, lessens traffic impacts
Foreman Gene Anderson and his three-man District 1 Bridge & Building crew leveraged creation of a sliding grader installer to complete repairs to the 56-year-old Interstate 90 Pennsylvania Avenue Bridge in just three weeks this spring. The repairs extended the life of the bridge to safely serve area drivers (approximately 22,000 each day) until the bridge is fully replaced in 2020 using a contractor. The innovation also helped reduce the duration of the closure by months, which allowed traffic to resume using the bridge much sooner.

Sidewalk and ADA ramp projects in St. Maries, out-of-state travel, and budgeting will highlight the Idaho Transportation Board’s meeting in Rigby next week. The board will tour area projects Aug. 17, and conduct its regular meeting Aug. 18.

DMV manager designs new driver’s license and ID card to be released this fall following half-day closures at county offices
DMV is unveiling a new card design and Bonnie Fogdall, DMV Business Operations Manager, had a lot to do with the new look. Bonnie and her staff worked with a new vendor, Marquis ID Systems (MIDS), to design the new license and ID card that includes leading-edge security features that are nearly impossible to counterfeit. MIDS is a license provider for several states, including Alaska, Colorado, Hawaii, Wyoming, Maryland, New Hampshire and the District of Columbia.

Trash out, wildflowers in — Happy Family Women's Club latest to combine community service functions on U.S. 95 in northern Idaho
When The Happy Family Women's Club called to reserve materials for their usual spring clean-up on U.S. 95, they added a new service to drivers – wildflowers. The group, District 1's Adopt-a-Highway Group of the Year, was just the latest to add the highway beautification function to the anti-litter efforts they have been involved with for years.
