Meridian Road Interchange rebuild wins regional engineering-achievement award
The reconstruction of the Meridian Road Interchange won the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) regional award for Outstanding Civil Engineering Achievement a few weeks ago, in a category for projects costing greater than $10 million. The project won the southern Idaho section award from ASCE in April, and advanced to win the regional competition announced Sept. 14.

Repairs to pedestrian bridge at Malad Rest Area serve traveler safety
A pedestrian bridge at the Malad Rest Area had fallen into disrepair, but waiting for the district's bridge and building crew to free up enough time to make the repairs would be a disservice to the numerous travelers who use the bridge to get out of their cars and stretch their legs.

Sept. board tour focuses on trans-load facility, airport relocation, innovations
The last scheduled tour of the Idaho Transportation Board in Shoshone featured visits with a warehouser and distributor, as well as a trans-load facility. The meeting also featured discussions of airport relocation and innovations from District 4.

District 1 develops directional chute for materials delivery
Repurposing a leftover sign and other in-house items, District 1's Gareth Abell and Gary Haynes recently created a detachable direction chute for gravel and other materials being spread on the roadway. The innovation saves significant time and wasted material in the process.

Alternative Fuels
Idaho submits Alternative Fuels Corridor application to USDOT
The nation’s recent transportation act, the FAST Act, requires the USDOT Secretary to designate national alternative fuels option -- electric-vehicle charging, hydrogen, propane, and natural-gas fueling corridors. The Federal Highway Administration issued notice to invite nominations from State and local officials to assist in making such designations.
