Recognizing an innovative spirit and a transformed culture that reflects a focus on the customer, the national organization Route Fifty has named ITD Director Brian Ness (pictured below) a finalist for the 2016 Navigator Awards in the “Agency and Department Chiefs” category.

Employees honored for length and quality of service
More than 40 employees will be honored for service ranging from five years to 35, and the Safety and Maintenance Persons of the Year will also be recognized Oct. 20 at the Idaho Transportation Board meeting in the Headquarters auditorium.

After 40 years, Wally Brown hands baton to Mike Lenz
After nearly 40 years of dedicated service to the state, the operations keys have been officially passed from District 1 Operations TSEA Wally Brown to the new kid in town, Mike Lenz. Brown rides off into the sunset Oct. 21.

ITD’s Negotiated Rulemaking on large, permitted trucks: The Beginning
It was a cold, dreary Monday on the 1st of February, 2016. The legislative session was in full swing and heating up quickly as the temperature outside hovered around 32 degrees. On that day, two seasoned state senators called for a meeting to discuss 129K trucks.

Finding suitable alternate route during eastern Idaho storms reduces detour from 45 minutes to just 10, enhances safety
Severe dust storms make it necessary to close a lengthy section of Interstate 15 north of Idaho Falls several times each year. During the average year, ITD closes this eastern-Idaho stretch up to five times, with an average closure time of eight hours each occurrence.

Encore (10-07-16): Exceeding expectations: ITD named finalist for Innovative Company of the Year
Creative, dynamic and customer-focused are typically not the first descriptors that come to mind when thinking of a state agency. Defying that perception, the Idaho Transportation Department was recently named a finalist for Idaho Innovative Company of the Year by the Idaho Technology Council.
