Rapid Innovation Event Oct. 27 focused on employee-driven solutions, represents “next steps” in continued cultural shift
The Rapid Innovation Event held at BSU Oct. 27 showcased a commitment to a continuing cultural shift within ITD. Employees learned how to take their innovation and problem-solving skills to the next level, using scientific processes grounded in the PLAN-DO-CHECK-ACT methodology. The Rapid Innovation Event was the first step in the roadmap for continuous improvement transformation at ITD.

Idaho high schoolers invited to help make roads safer
Idaho high school students are encouraged to use technology to help make roads safer through the National Institute for Advanced Transportation Technology distracted-driving safety messaging challenge going on through Nov. 18. Students can submit social media posts and/or a short video to help spotlight the issue of distracted driving.

Fiery vehicle crash closes Idaho 75 near Challis for most of Tuesday
A crash between a tanker carrying diesel fuel and a passenger car Tuesday around 8:30 a.m. closed Idaho 75 near the East Fork Salmon River Bridge Complex, about 25 miles southwest of Challis and near Clayton. The crash caused the tanker to overturn and spill 10,000 gallons of fuel, which caught fire and burned for nearly five hours, generating a cloud of black smoke and intense heat.

Governmental Affairs
Large, permitted truck negotiated rulemaking: public comments, and lots of 'em!
With our first round of comments completed, it was time to decide on the foundation of this rulemaking. As you'll recall, this project began with no draft rules or suggested changes to rules. But, the first round of public comments was definitely a success, as more than 40 stakeholders submitted 300+ pages of documentation.

Tomlinson accepts Alive at 25 defensive-driving award from National Safety Council
The National Safety Council this summer named the Alive at 25 program as winner of its Astonishing Achievement Award for outstanding training efforts and work to make Idaho’s highways safer. The award recognized the Idaho Transportation Department’s training efforts in the defensive-driving class.
