A boulder near Riggins underscores that roadway risks exist even during mild winter
It was near the end of the work day on January 24 when I got the call of a crash including rockfall on US-95 a few miles south of Riggins. I didn’t think much about it – rocks fall in the mountains – but the photos taken by TTOs Toni Walker and Brad Steiner and it changed my perspective.

Tree tangles with truck amid soggy soil
Soils, saturated by moisture, are not able to anchor rocks and vegetation. Crews in north-central Idaho were called out numerous times last week for downed trees, rock fall and plugged culverts, resulting in several road closures. ITD published information last week to help make drivers aware of the dangers and encourages its own employees to keep their safety in mind, even when they are off the clock.

Rapidly approaching federal deadline prompts DMV to remind residents to get Star Card
Eight months ahead of the federally mandated deadline, the DMV continues to raise awareness about the importance of getting a Star Card—Idaho’s Real ID. Currently, 268,241 of 1.25 million licensed drivers in Idaho have a Star Card.
