Darrington’s service provides life-saving opportunity for trucker

A commercial truck driver stopped at the Cotterell Port of Entry on Interstate 84 in south-central Idaho in late February with wonderfully uplifting news.

On a stormy day several weeks earlier, the trucker had pulled into the Cotterell port to get permitted to travel on U.S. 95. Despite the miserable weather, Port of Entry Inspector Tysha Darrington went to work, measuring the truck and issuing him the permit. The driver was impressed that Tysha was willing to work in the storm, saying that most port of entry employees in other states he had dealt with would not have done it.

Later that night while driving on U.S. 95, the driver came upon a crash scene. A young man had been ejected from his vehicle and was badly injured. The trucker bandaged the man and resuscitated him twice. It was 15 minutes before another motorist came along to assist. The gentleman expressed gratitude that Tysha had done her job so well — and that in turn he could travel on U.S. 95 and help the accident victim.

“Outstanding customer service, like that provided by Tysha, often creates beneficial outcomes that we cannot envision,” DMV Compliance Manager Reymundo Rodriguez said. “Customer service matters.”

“I was just doing my job and helping the customer as much as any of my other co-workers would have,” Darrington explained. “I’m glad the truck driver was able to be there to help that young man.”
