ITD north-central office turns over truck to college March 14

ITD's north-central Idaho crew turned over the keys to a 2008 GMC Sierra 3500 to Lewis-Clark State College's diesel technology program on March 14. The truck has amassed approximately 184,000 miles. It still runs but is in need of repair. Instead of salvaging the truck, ITD donated the truck to the college.

Pictured from left: Bob Schumacher, operations engineer for D2, hands off the keys to LCSC diesel instructor Andy Kuther, while Jay Kimble, another assistant professor from the college, looks on.

The truck requires extensive repairs, giving students an opportunity to diagnose and repair a newer diesel engine. Kuther and Kimble said the donation is almost priceless because the current small truck fleet they work on does not have this kind of fuel system.

The vehicle was used in the Orofino, Pierce and Weippe areas to haul equipment during the last 10 years.

LCSC averages approximately 30 students a year in the program. Within the last five years, according to data from the school, the program has placed 95% of its graduates in industry and more than 20 local businesses recruit students to fill open positions.
