Highways "A Team" wins Leadership Summit's Culture award

At the Leadership Summit Oct. 24, the “Constructive Culture” award went to a team from the ITD Highways section (Division of Engineering Products & Plans/Division of Engineering Services) calling themselves the A Team. The lessons they learned during their journey were all about teamwork, collaboration and uniting to accomplish a goal — all things that are hallmarks of the cultural shift ITD has been moving toward for the last few years.

Although they were not selected as one of the few to give their 15-minute presentation at the event, their collaborative journey is worth sharing.

Their journey started about three years ago when they began to whittle down an original roster of 16 people to the core group of six.

“We applied for this opportunity to be able to showcase our recent emergence from a siloed work environment, to a very constructive, communicative, cohesive team,” explained Team Lead Linda Brown.

The team decided to create a children’s short story.

“It was a blast creating and illustrating this book, and was an excellent opportunity for our team to educate our new employees on where this process started, reminisce over what has gone well and discuss possible improvements for future successes,” Brown said.
