PPE Team presents employee-safety case at Leadership Summit

Officially rolled out on August 30, ITD has new safety vests thanks to the Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) team. Hearing what employees wanted and needed for new PPE, the team made sure roadside workers stood out from surrounding berrels and cones, and felt confident in their new gear. When discussing their successes at the Leadership Summit this year, the PPE Team has clearly accomplished a lot, and was focusing everything on improving the safety of employees.

The team was able to display their hard work with the new safety vest and the other PPE at ITD, such as the recently launced boot program. They focused on "your safety" as the theme. With a couple skits, videos and photos, they showcased their efforts on behalf of the employees of ITD.

“We showed where this came from, why we are doing this, and what to expect doing forward," said ITD District 6 Engineering Manager Jesse Barrus, who was the Team Lead. "We appreciated all who came by and visited with us and picked up info at our booth. We especially appreciate all the feedback and input we received from the employees of ITD while developing these safety items."

The safety footwear program is currently being rolled out and so far is going smoothly. To date, Districts 4, 5, and 6 are nearly complete on issuing footwear. Footwear in the remaining districts and departments will be issued by the end of November.

“This is a huge step in the right direction for ITD. It shows how much we mean to the department,” Barrus added. “We are also looking at an interim solution to the coats and winter pants so we can get them this winter.”
