Latest 511 enhancement offers information on rest areas

There have been several dozen improvements to the 511 traveler information system since it was introduced more than 13 years ago, and the latest is an enhancement already implemented to provide better information at rest areas statewide.

"Rest area displays on the 511 website were very simple. It was sometimes difficult to tell when a rest area had been closed, why, and when it was likely to reopen," explained ITD Travel Services Coordinator Tony Ernest.

Ernest said rest area displays on 511 are now clearer and more intuitive, and include all related information for each given site. Closures are clearly displayed, with detailed information on cause and expected reopening times, allowing travelers to make better decisions.

Travelers can also use the 511 display to inform ITD of incorrect information or issues the department should be aware of.
